How to Add a Signature to a Google Doc

Google Docs doesn't have a dedicated e-signature button, but there are two solid ways to add a signature to a document. One is built into Google Docs and good for personal use; the other gives you a legally binding signature with a proper audit trail. Here's both.

Method 1: The built-in Drawing tool

Google Docs has a Drawing feature you can use to draw your signature directly in the document:

1. Place your cursor where you want the signature.
2. Go to Insert → Drawing → + New.
3. Click the Line tool and choose Scribble.
4. Draw your signature with your mouse or trackpad.
5. Click Save and Close to insert it.

You can also insert a photo of your handwritten signature with Insert → Image. Either way, this just places a drawing or picture in the document — it's convenient, but there's no record of who signed, when, or from where.

Method 2: Download as PDF and e-sign (recommended)

If the document actually matters — a contract, agreement, or anything you might need to prove later — the reliable route is to turn it into a PDF and sign it with an e-signature tool that captures an audit trail.

Step 1: Download the Doc as a PDF

In Google Docs, go to File → Download → PDF Document (.pdf). This preserves your layout exactly.

Step 2: Upload it to SignovaX

Which method should you use?

Is it legally binding?
